NEWS RELEASE
URGENT Immediate Release
BENEFIT CONCERT
“KNOW YOUR FOOD LOVE YOUR ISLAND for LIFECYCLES ORG.
Focusing on continuing awareness of local food production and
sustainability on Vancouver Island
VICTORIA Sustainability of our island food resources is top-of-mind
at present and The HomeGrown Collective are determined to channel
that awareness into action. A concert featuring some of Victorias top
local talent will be held Thursday 3 March at 7pm at the Victoria
Event Centre, 1415 Broad Str benefitting LifeCycles and the continuing
momentum of the local food movement.
The event intends to highlight the importance of buying and growing food
locally so that the Island develops a sustainable food system that supports
at least 50% of the population by 2015. Proceeds to go to Lifecycles
a local non-profit dedicated to teaching people how to grow their own
produce and initiating projects that focus on local food production and
sustainability.
Most people here are unaware how we would be affected should there
be a (natural) disaster that affects ferry transport to Vancouver Island.
Basically the shelves of most grocers would be bare within 4-5 days.
Together with various like-minded groups we are intent on making people
aware that if we support local we will effectively build a sustainable food
supply and that such a threat would be of little consequence said Scott
Kelly, Director of HomeGrown Collective and organiser of the event.
The event will showcase various video clips from local food initiatives
as well as other island food supply organisations. The remainder of the
evening will feature a musical line-up some of the more popular bands and
musicians in Victoria.
Media are welcome to contact Mr Scott Kelly, Director
HomeGrown Collective and event organizer, at 250-882-3454 or
scott@gentleearth.ca for interviews or further information, and/or visit

ASAP.
