The world acclaimed Bellydance Superstars will unveil The Art of Bellydance, an incredible new show upping the ante even further in production and professionalism, coming to Nanaimo’s Port Theatre on Sunday, May 24, 2009.

Featuring new choreography, luxurious colorful costumes and full throttle production, the Bellydance Superstars’ Art of Bellydance show beautifully captures the multi-faceted art of bellydance – at once playful and spiritual; about escape as much as connection. The Art of Bellydance cast includes: Bozenka, Sonia, Petite Jamilla, Sabah, Moria, Kami Liddle, Nathalie, Colleen, Ebony, Zoe Jakes, Lauren, Samantha, and Sarah. They will be accompanied by master percussionist, Issam Houshan.

The ancient art of Bellydance has existed for generations as part of Middle Eastern culture- sometimes celebrated, sometimes suppressed, but always a natural partner to the rich music of the region. In the late 20th century, the art spread its wings and inspired women around the world to become a virtual craze evolving into the fastest growing dance form in the world today.

At the forefront of the growth in popularity and respect, are the Bellydance Superstars who have taken this once largely solo dance onto the main stage as a major theatrical dance extravaganza appealing to a wide spectrum of dance enthusiasts. Their new show builds on their reputation of the best of the best performing a variety of bellydance styles as well as their unique fusions painting bellydance with a broad palette fit for the world’s major stages.

The Bellydance Superstars is the realized vision of Miles Copeland, legendary music business mogul (The Police, Sting, I.R.S. Records). Comprised of America’s best-known, most sought-after bellydancers, the troupe has performed over 500 shows (including many sell outs) in 20 countries in the last five years, wowing over one million enthusiastic fans in venues and 100 million on television, with their fascinating live performances.
