All jogged out? Aerobics not pushing your buttons? Feeling the urge for something new?

Well, it takes only a cursory glance at sport-centric, fit-bodied Vancouver to know it’s a city at the vanguard of exercise in Canada, regularly absorbing new workouts from around the globe or making up a few of its own.

And, judging by the reported spike in sales of those $100 US luxury yoga mats made by Manduka, we’re clearly happy in B.C. to spend money on keeping active even during the economic melee.

Here's a guide to seven popular workouts that will test your mettle. You may not have heard of them all yet, but you will ...

Bellyfit

Designed by Victoria-based Alice Bracegirdle, Bellyfit is one of those unusual classes that, while there is no doubt that you build up a sweat, is as enjoyable as being over-energetic, say, at a wedding disco.

Over 45 minutes, you fuse belly, Bollywood and other movements though numbers called the African shimmy, the Bhangra bounce and the Goddess pulse among others, along with Pilates-inspired core work. Because it focuses heavily on the hips, do not be surprised if it feels a lot more sensual than other workouts.

Who does it suit? Those who love spicing up their fitness routines.

Where: Classes held around the province, including in Vancouver, Richmond, Kelowna and Victoria.

Cost: Drop-ins $15.
