Food security, health and wellness

As an idealist, I often envision a world where we’re co-existing with our own species, and the planet as a whole in a way that is more natural and sustainable. All of my readings and studies on the topics of sustainability, peak oil, food security, conspiracies, new world order, corporate and governmental corruption- all point out the glaring fact that we are currently living within a system that is not designed to work on the long term. This system that we are force-fed via TV and media, and main-stream news is one that is designed to keep the rich, rich, and the middle class busting their asses to stay employed, pay their bills, and grapple with debt.
I find it often quite overwhelming to get really wrapped up in these symptoms and issues, so what I do in my life, is work really hard to keep our vision of a better world alive. So, when I see others around me in my local community working really hard to create change, and make an impact- to help reinforce the same ideals that I try to live by, I get really inspired and excited!
The folks at Gentle Earth (http://www.gentleearth.ca/) are moving with intense purpose right now and are producing an amazing event in Victoria next week. Tackling the incredibly important issue of Food Security, they pose the question:

“Wouldn’t you like to Know where Your Food is coming from? Wouldn’t you like to see more local food options in shopping markets and restaurants?”

I like the idea of knowing where my food comes from, and in response to this desire- I’ve expanded my back-yard garden by about 3 times this summer. Growing all sorts of edible plants to do what I can to learn for myself what it takes to grow food, and also to know exactly where it comes from!
The event is happening next Tuesday, April 27th at 6pm at the Ambrosia Event Center.

I really hope you can come out and learn/support this really important event and initiative that is bringing together all the most active local sustainable businesses, growers and public figures,
